Connect your existing WhatsApp number: five checks

Your number is on the shop window, Google profile and old business cards. A new line sounds easy until loyal clients keep writing to the old one.

Confirm ownership and access

Record who controls the phone number, who can access the Meta Business account and who can receive the verification code. Without those answers, setup may stop before the first message arrives.

Check whether the number already runs in a WhatsApp app or through another provider. The migration route depends on its current state and on Meta's and the vendor's available options. An existing number does not guarantee a switch without interruption.

Plan the changeover

Choose a quiet period and decide who handles messages while the connection changes. Save any information the business needs to retain and choose who will run a test conversation. Ask what happens to previous chat history.

Then test with a phone outside your team: send a request, receive an answer, choose a time and inspect the calendar. Try a manual takeover as well. A green tick on a setup screen is not an end-to-end test.

Write down the exit route

Record who keeps ownership of the number, how to disconnect it later and how clients can reach the business during an outage. Future changes should not depend on one employee or provider.
