Why an empty chair is not yet a bookable appointment

The calendar shows a free half hour at 4 pm. A client asks for colour and a cut. Without the service duration, that blank space is a misleading offer.

Make services bookable

Give each service a realistic duration and define which professionals can perform it. Include preparation, processing and cleanup when they occupy a person or chair. A combined service may need a different schedule from two separate blocks.

Put opening hours, personal shifts and breaks into the same plan. “The salon is open” is insufficient if the only qualified professional is already busy.

Check when the client chooses

Let the client state a preference, but read the live calendar before offering specific options. Check again when finalising. Someone else may take a slot between proposal and confirmation.

Decide who can approve exceptions. A professional who is away should not become bookable through an outdated rota. The owner needs a clear point of handover.

Test a difficult combination

Try “haircut and beard trim with Sam tomorrow after four”. Give Sam a half-hour break and fill the next slot. A sound system offers only a fully fitting combination or asks for another day.

Check the result for professional, both services, total duration and confirmation. Chat text is reliable only when the same appointment exists in the calendar.
